Chasing Sprint rescheduled for 22nd April

23 March 2006 - 18:48 UTC

JOK are very pleased to announce the rescheduling of this year’s JOK Chasing Sprint to the new date of Saturday 22nd April at the same location of Bishop Woods.

The event is the day before the LOC Regional Event at Graythwaite (the adjacent forest), and we hope that many orienteers will be able to make it up for a weekend of top quality races in great Lake District terrain, despite the late notice.

The UK Cup organisers have decided the event will retain its UK Cup Race status. Please note, there are no plans to make the LOC Regional Event a UK Cup Race to replace the cancelled SROC National Event (the UK Cup series 2006 already had one more race than normal, plus there was a concern about having too many UK Cup races around this period and diluting entries to them, particular for the Triple O Severn races the following weekend).

The Future Champions Cup Organisers have also decided that the event will retain its FCC Race status. This is so that the FCC Series retains a reasonable geographical spread so as to enable athletes to have a good choice of races to attend. The FCC Series scoring will be the best 3 scores from a 7 race series. The organisers of the FCC Final are aware of the change to the last race of the qualifying series.

The BOF Club Coaching day originally planned for 22nd April on Bishop Woods (!), will still go ahead. The final arrangements are still being worked out, but it expected that BOF Club Coaching will be possible in parallel with the JOK Prologue races in the morning and over lunchtime, before the forest is closed to be used exclusively for the JOK Chase races in the afternoon. Those clubs and individuals who have already booked places on the BOF Club Coaching day have already been contacted and will be updated with the final arrangements shortly.

JOK would like to thank many people for their overall support and flexibility in allowing the event to proceed on the new date, and in particular to BOF who are allowing the races and the club coaching to exist in parallel.

JOK are still deciding the level of refunds to be given to those competitors who have already entered and will not be able to make the new date. Further details will be available by the end of this week, allowing pre-entrants the chance to confirm or cancel their entry. Anyone who couldn’t make the original date to enter can now enter online for the new date.

Entries for the LOC Regional Event are still open, and the closing date is 31st March for postal entries and 6th April for online entries.
