Chasing Sprint cancelled

17 March 2006 - 07:42 UTC

We have reluctantly decided that we have to cancel the JOK Sprint on Saturday.

This is primarily because we have no car parking available. The car park field is under several inches of snow, which is thawing only very slowly. The forecast is for continuing cold temperatures, with the possibility of more snow.

We had arranged for alternative car parking along a forest track in Graythwaite to be used in the event that the car park field was too wet. This alternative parking is also affected by snow and could only accommodate you by asking that you drive off the edge of the track into snow piles with no knowledge of what was under the snow; ditches, logs, mud, rocks etc.

We have considered at this late stage alternative hard standing car parking several miles away from the event with the use of minibuses to transport you to Assembly but have decided this is impractical in the time available to us.

We also want to make clear that the courses would probably be compromised by the amount of snow in the forest, which would make for very hard going and an inevitable tracking up, likely to significantly favour later runners. We would however have accepted this if we could have got everyone to the event.

We hope you will understand this has been a reluctant decision, which we have agonised over and tried to find a way round, but the weather has beaten us.

It is our intention to rerun JOK 2006 Chasing Sprint later in the year and we ask that you check the JOK website for developments on this. We will also publish any refund policy on the site in the next few days. We hope you can stay with us while we seek an alternative date.
