If this is required please allow an extra 30 minutes to walk to assembly by public footpath and minor road. Access will be at Hazelseat (SD 368925) 1.5km south of the current car-parking. Please check the website for any last minute changes www.jok.org.uk.

Car parking is limited - please share transport. Please can you contact the organiser if you are bringing a minibus or camper van. It is possible that you will have to use the alternative parking but passengers can be dropped off at Assembly. NO COACHES CAN BE PARKED.

Parking is £1 per car. Please have correct money ready.

Format of event

The Chasing Sprint comprises two short races; the prologue (Race 1) and then the chase (Race 2). Each competitor is allocated a start time for Race 1, and the time taken in Race 1 determines the start time for Race 2. The men's and women's open classes are part of the Future Champions' Cup series and UK CUP series.

Map

Map is 1:10,000 with 5m contours. As used for JK relays 2004, with minor updates for JOK Sprint. Maps will be A5 size and bagged, but not sealed. Pictorial control descriptions used for all courses, printed on the front of the map, and available in the start lanes. There is no Legend on the map. Special non-standard symbol for a platform is a black circle (on the map and in control descriptions). Power lines are not marked on the map. All fences marked as uncrossable on the map are only to be crossed at marked crossing points (as indicated on the overprint and in the control descriptions). There is one such fence to be crossed half way round all courses, prologue and chase; and one such fence to be crossed between the penultimate and final controls on all courses on the chase. All walls within the woodland are crossable. All fields except car park / assembly are out of bounds.

Terrain

The area comprises mature, open, runnable forest for the most part, but with one significant area of thicker plantation with lower visibility. There is a lot of complex contour, rock and vegetation detail. All courses have been planned to Technical Difficulty 5, i.e. challenging. Warning: there are many controls in what is a relatively small area of forest. It is imperative that you check your control codes!

Race Information

SI electronic punching will be used. Competitors hiring e-cards should collect their e-cards from enquiries. Your e-card must be cleared and checked at the start before each race. Please ensure that the Control unit registers correctly. If a unit is not working, punch the map and report this at download once you have finished. The prologue will have a punching finish; the chase will have a finish line, after which you should stay in order to punch the final control. Do not forget to download after the prologue!

Competitors may warm up anywhere in the assembly field, and on either side of the paths leading to the starts, but please do not stray more than 50m from the paths to the starts in the forest. The forest is out of bounds until your run and between the two rounds. Maps will be collected after the prologue and returned after the chase. All competitors who start must report to the finish. Whistles are recommended.

Assembly area/Car park

The assembly area is 200m from the car park. In this area you will find. enquiries, download, , and the finish for both Race 1 (the prologue) and Race 2 (the chase). There will also be Wilfs, Compass Point, St John's Ambulance and toilets. (Please note these may be in the car park if vehicle access to the assembly field is too wet on the day). There are no toilets at the starts. Dogs on a lead in car park only.

Starts

Both starts are within 600m of parking, and less than 20m climb (and less than 10 minutes walk). Please follow signs and tapes from the north end of the assembly field (i.e. near the finish). There will not be a clothing transfer. Start 1 will be a normal timed start. Starts runfrom 1030 to 1230. Do not arrive late; start officials cannot change your start time. Race 1 closes at 13:30. A start list will be available at www.jok.org.uk. The start list has been drawn up in accordance with the guidelines for Future Champions' Cup (FCC) races and UK Cup races. Please check that your entry information is correct. If there are any problems then please phone Pat Bartlett between 2000 & 2200 on 0131 667 7943 or send an e-mail (preferred) to jok2006@jonm.org.

After downloading from Race 1 you will be handed a copy of your split times for Race 1. Your start time for Race 2 is calculated by adding the time taken for Race 1 to the base time. The base time for courses C and D (M/W 40+/16-) is 13:30; for courses A and B (M/W Open) it is 14:00. So, for example, if you are on course B and take 27 minutes and 43 seconds for Race 1, your start time for Race 2 will be 14:27:43. Please calculate your own Race 2 start time (start lists will also be displayed in pre-start as soon as available). There is a mass start at 15:00 for any competitor who is disqualified from Race 1 or took longer than 60 minutes.

Call up for the Chasing Start will be at minus 5 minutes. Competitors will be called up in minute blocks and lined up in start order. Please help the start officials by sorting yourself into order. Start 2 will be a timed start. The top 20 competitors for each category will be asked to wear a race number on their chest, and the number will be provided, together with safety pins, at the start. Race 2 closes at 16.00.

Finishes

The finish for both Race 1 and Race 2 is in the assembly field. For Race 1 your finish time is when you e-punch at the finish control. Download is adjacent - please download immediately! For Race 2 you finish when you cross the finish line. After crossing the line competitors should stay in order and e-punch at the SI unit a few metres after the line. Officials will be judging close finishes; please respect their decisions.

The run in from the last control to the finish crosses a low wall into the Assembly Field. Please take care.
