Grid reference for entrance to parking: NS/749934, west of Cambusbarron village. The event will be signed from the A811 west of Stirling at grid ref NS/742940. The final approach to the car park goes through the back yard of a cottage, please drive slowly and with consideration.
The Chasing Sprint comprises two short races; the prologue (Race 1) and then the chase (Race 2). Each competitor is allocated a start time for Race 1, and the time taken in Race 1 determines the start time for Race 2. The men's and women's open classes are part of the Future Champions' Cup series.
All courses will use a 1:10,000 map, surveyed in 2004 and with minor 2005 corrections. Contour interval 5m. Control descriptions are on the front of the maps. Descriptions for the prologue are available on www.jok.org.uk and from enquiries. Descriptions for the chase will be available in the pre-start area.
The terrain is varied, including detailed open moorland (only visited by the Open class), some typical tough Scottish forest, and a large area of fantastic and intricate open/semi-open woodland. Ideal for fast and furious racing! There is much contour detail everywhere. There are brashings underfoot in some of the forest, which may slow progress for the less aggressive runners. There are also some clear-felled areas, which are generally runnable but again have some low brashings. A reasonably hard winter has brought down the bracken in the semi-open, and this area challenges runners to run fast whilst remaining in control of their navigation. All courses have been planned to Technical Difficulty 5, i.e. challenging.
SI electronic punching will be used. Competitors hiring e-cards should collect their e-cards from enquiries. Your e-card must be cleared and checked at the start before each race. Please ensure that the unit registers correctly. If a unit is not working, punch the map and report this at download once you have finished. The prologue will have a punching finish; the chase will have a finish line, after which you should stay in order to punch the final control. Do not forget to download after the prologue!
The forest is out of bounds until your run and between the two rounds. Maps will be collected after the prologue and returned after the chase.
All competitors who start must report to the finish. Whistles are recommended.
The assembly area and car park are adjacent. In this area you will find. enquiries, download, toilets, and the finish for both Race 1 (the prologue) and Race 2 (the chase). There will also be a refreshment stall in aid of CHAS (Children's Hospice Association Scotland) - please give them your support.
There will be portaloos in the car park. There are no toilets at the starts.
Start for Race 1 (the prologue) is 2.0km and 150m climb from assembly - please follow the signs and tapes. There will be a clothing transfer but please be aware that all clothing left at the start will only be returned to assembly after the last start in the prologue (i.e. it will be back at assembly well after 12noon). Start 1 will be a normal timed start. Do not arrive late; start officials cannot change your start time. Race 1 closes at 13:00.
A start list is available on www.jok.org.uk. The start list has been drawn up in accordance with the guidelines for Future Champions' Cup (FCC) races. Seeded FCC runners are separated by 4 minute intervals with other FCC runners at 2 minute spacings.
Please check that your entry information is correct. If there are any problems then please phone John Emeleus on 01592 561291 between 1900 & 2200 or send an e-mail to jok2005@jonm.org.
The start for Race2 (the chase) is 0.6km and 25m climb from assembly - please follow the signs and tapes. After downloading from Race 1 you will be handed a copy of your split times for Race 1. Your start time for Race 2 is calculated by adding the time taken for Race 1 to the base time. The base time for courses B and D (women) is 12:45; for courses A and C (men) it is 13:15. So, for example, if you are on course C and take 27 minutes and 43 seconds for Race 1, your start time for Race 2 will be 13:42:43. Please calculate your own Race 2 start time. There is a mass start at 14:15 for any competitor who is disqualified from Race 1 or took longer than 60 minutes.
Call up for the Chasing Start will be at minus 5 minutes. Competitors will be called up in minute blocks and lined up in start order. Please help the start officials by sorting yourself into order. Start 2 will be a timed start. The top 10 competitors for each category will be asked to wear a race number on their chest, and the number will be provided, together with safety pins, at the start. Race 2 closes at 15:15.
The finish for both Race 1 and Race 2 is in the assembly field. For Race 1 your finish time is when you e-punch at the finish control. Download is adjacent - please download immediately! For Race 2 you finish when you cross the finish line. After crossing the line competitors should stay in order and e-punch at the SI unit a few metres after the line. Officials will be judging close finishes; please respect their decisions.
