The event will be signposted for those coming from the North from the B5285 on the SE corner of Hawkshead, and for those coming from the South from the A590/B5287 junction at Haverthwaite. These points are 6km and 9km from the event respectively. The route is along narrow roads and signs will only be on junctions where you need to turn, so it will be worthwhile allowing plenty of time and consulting a map before departure. Parking is at grid reference SD 353927. Please have £1 ready for parking (or £2 for minibuses).
The Chasing Sprint comprises two short races; the prologue (Race 1) and then the chase (Race 2). Each competitor is allocated a start time for Race 1 in the normal way and then their time for Race 1 determines their start time for Race 2.
110,000 2000 map by Martin Bagness. Contour interval 5m.
Working forest with a mixture of coniferous and deciduous woodland: rocky underfoot in places; plenty of contour detail on top; and a steep slope to the east. Recent areas of wind-blow are not marked on the map, but should not affect obvious route choices.
There is a taped route between the final control and the Finish. Loose control descriptions for both races are enclosed with these details. Please ensure these are appropriately carried to avoid litter. Race 1 maps will be collected at the finish and returned after Race 2. Safety - Once started you must report to the finish.
Toilets, traders (including Wilfs and Compass Point) and Enquiries will be located on the south side of the wall by the entrance to the car park. Enquiries will be open between 10.00 and 13.00. If you entered late (postmarked after 8 April) and have not paid your £1 late entry fee, please could you pay this at Enquiries.
All courses will be using the SPORTident electronic punching system. Your e-card must be cleared and checked at the start before each race. Competitors should manually punch on the map, and report this at the finish, in the highly unlikely event that the electronic punch does not give out a beep/flash. The enclosed start list indicates those competitors who are hiring e-cards and those who have their own e-cards. Competitors hiring e-cards should collect their e-cards from Enquiries. There is a hire charge of £1 for the day. If you have your own ecard and this is not shown on the start list, please contact the Entries Secretary, Peter Huzan (details below) prior to the event with your e-card number. The FCC guide was used for FCC start times.
Start 1 is 1.3km and 60m climb from the Car Park; follow tapes. There will be no clothing transfer. Call up will be at minus 2 minutes. The start list enclosed with these details gives your start time for Race 1. Start 1 will be a normal timed start. Do not arrive late; start officials cannot change your start time.
Both Race 1 and Race 2 use the same Finish, which is located approximately 150m west of the Car Park. The small river between the Finish and Car Park, will have a temporary bridge by Enquiries. For Race 1 your finish time is when you e-punch at the finish control. For Race 2 you finish when you cross the finish line. After crossing the line competitors should stay in order and e-punch at the SI unit a few meters after the line. Officials will be judging close finishes; please respect their decisions. After e-punching at the finish, follow tapes to download your e-card information.
Start 2 for the chase is 1.1km and 100m climb from the car park; again follow tapes. After finishing Race 1 you will be handed a copy of your split times for Race 1. Results will also be on display in the finish area. Your start time for Race 2 is calculated by adding the time taken for Race 1 to the base time. The base time for courses A and B is 14.30. For courses C and D the base time is 14.00. So, for example, if you are on course C and take 20 minutes and 10 seconds for Race 1, your start time for Race 2 will be 14.20.10. Please calculate your own Race 2 start time. Competitors are asked to write down their name and Race 2 start time on the edge of their Race 2 control descriptions to help the Race 2 start officials, as this start is expected to be very busy. There is a mass start at 15.15 for any competitor who is disqualified from Race 1 or took longer than 45 minutes for courses A or B, or 75 minutes for courses C and D. Courses close at 16.15. Call up for the Chasing Start will be at minus 5 minutes. Competitors will be called up in minute blocks and lined up in start order. Please help the start officials by sorting yourself into order. Start 2 will be a timed start. The top 10 competitors for each category will be asked to wear a race number on their chest, which will be provided, together with safety pins, at the start.

Please hang around for a few minutes to support the winners. Please will all current trophy holders return their trophies to Enquiries in the morning.
